At the end of July 2026, Adobe released version 21.5 of InDesign with a particular update:
Added support for multiline records and UTF-8 encoded data files.

Unfortunately, this new support for multiline records can have detrimental effects for users of both free and pro versions of the script. Despite my efforts to contact the Adobe InDesign Developers about how they accomplished this so that I could update my script, I was unable to get in touch and have been unable to add support for this feature.
That said, if you are using both the latest version of InDesign (21.5) and either Data Merge to Single Records:
- Free version v1.28 or earlier; or
- Pro version v1.05 or earlier
Then please download the latest version as soon as possible. Details about downloading the latest version are listed below.
The update determines if multiline records exist in the database and – if present – will prevent the script from going further until the database is corrected.
The latest version of the Data Merge to Single Record scripts is 1.29 and can be found in the title of the script:
The latest version of the Pro script is 1.06.
If your version of the free script is an older number, navigate to the scripts page and download the latest one from there.

As I mentioned in my last post, users who have been patiently waiting for the 2.0 version of the pro script, know that it is still in development but a release date has not been announced.
Similarly, if you’re using a different Data Merge related script such as the Cut and Stack script or data merge in batches script, please note that these scripts will be updated soon, but I’ve taken the links offline until the latest versions are ready.
If you have previously purchased the pro version, you should receive an email within the week with the new download link… but I’d encourage you to be proactive and contact me via the contact page to receive your link to the latest version.
