Most DTP programs nowadays feature the ability to improve on the software using a third party module sometimes known as plug-ins or (in the case of Quark Xpress) Xtensions. While most modules have to be purchased, an alternative to third party modules are program scripts written in applescript, visual basic or javascript which can be just as useful. Fortunately, some of these are free, and anybody with a working knowledge of javascript can build their own scripts. The aim of all of these products is to save time in specific areas of DTP such as page imposition, database management, style conformity, etc.
